Set on the shores of Dickson Inlet, Port Douglas Yacht Club brings together a love of sailing and the relaxed atmosphere of life in Far North Queensland.
For members, it’s a place to sail, catch up and feel at home. For locals and visitors, The Yachty offers a warm welcome, waterfront dining and the chance to discover a little of our sailing community.

Port Douglas Yacht Club began in 1985, when a group of sailing enthusiasts and friends came together to establish a club.
Years of fundraising followed, leading to the opening of the dedicated clubhouse on 4 December 1993. Officially opened by Sir James Hardy, it marked an important milestone in the club’s history.
In its early days, volunteers ran the kitchen and bar, opening for race days and selected evenings. As the club grew, so did its facilities and activities, supported by the dedication and generosity of its members.

Member contributions, volunteer effort and ongoing improvements help shape the waterfront club we enjoy today.
Sailing remains at the heart of PDYC. The club brings people together on the water through member sailing, racing and Port Douglas Race Week.
That connection continues ashore, where stories are shared, friendships grow and the next sailing adventure takes shape.
1985
First meeting
Port Douglas Yacht Club was established by a group of sailing enthusiasts and friends, with its inaugural meeting held in 1985.
1993
Clubhouse
Following years of fundraising, the dedicated clubhouse opened on 4 December 1993, officially opened by Sir James Hardy.
Through the years — Growing together
Initially, the club was only open on race days and select evenings, with volunteers handling the kitchen and bar. Over time, the club hired a manager and expanded its hours to include weekends. Several additions have been made, including a roof extension funded by yacht donations and improvements following Cyclone Yasi.
